Black screen with an X instead of KDE
After installing SUSE10.0 on my laptop without any error messages I cannot start the kde!
There is the X in the center of the screen but the the system is frozen. Some weird artifacts are drawing dottet lines on the top 5% of the screen. The setup determined my grafics card (ATI Radeon Xpress 200M) and my Display correctly. I cannot help myself. What's wrong? Got anyone an idea? And does openSUSE10.0 use xorg or xfree per default? might that be related to my problem? Argh! Thanks in advance! Dankmann78:jawa: ! |
hello Dankmann78
try to start your laptop in runlevel 3 (no GUI) or failsafe mode if it is easier for you and login as root run yast2 choose 'System' and '/etc/sysconfig Editor' there 'Desktop' and 'Display Manager' put kdm in DISPLAYMANAGER variable put yes in DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER variable put auto in KDM_SHUTDOWN variable then 'Desktop' and 'Window manager' put kde in DEFAULT_WM variable put yes in INSTALL_DESKTOP_EXTENSIONS variable Finish and close yast2 Restart the laptop. This should be better. I hope it will solve your difficulty. |
