Banshee / Creative Zen Touch error SLED10
 

I'm going insane here.....:mad:

I am trying to sync my Creative Zen Jukebox using Banshee. I have used it in the past when I was running SLED 10 rc3 and it worked fine. I rebuilt my laptop with the final release of SLED 10 but now I can't view the contents of my Zen Touch. Banshee recognizes that the jukebox is connected but when I try to view the contents I receive the following error:

Cannot Read Device
usb-set-configuration: Operation not permitted.

I know this is a permissions issues with between the device and libnjb but I do not know how to fix it. I have followed the steps in the following article that explains how to fix this exact error, but have found no luck.

I know it works becuase I was able to view the contents when logged in as root. So right now im pretty much stumped. If anyone has some insight it would be greatly appreciated......(I really don't want to have to put my Windows HD in my laptop every time I want to SYNC).

Also if anyone knows where I could find the RPM for GNomad2 for SLED 10 (or even open suse 10.1) that would be awsome. ./configure doesn't see the dependencies installed when trying to build it from source.

It searches RPM for all the major distros that use RPMs.

You can use advanced search to narrow your serch to your distro by unchecking the other distros.

You should include 9.x as Some 9.X RPMs will work on 10.X

Check YaST to see if you got libUSB and libnjb installed.

Or you could just got to rpm.pbone.net, search "gnomad2". Note that the latest gnomad2 RPM they have is for Suse 9.3. It works on my Open SUSE 10.1. Before you do so, click on check requires, accept the certificate popup, It will scan your packages to see if you have all the requirements to install it! If your missing somthing it's best you check yast fist, then search it on rpm.bone.net. (though it help if you had packman, and Guru repositories if you have not already, added to Yast as they can contain packages that SUSE update does not. )

You run it by typing gnomad2 in shell or you can create a launcher on your desktop if you wish (that's what I did because it was too annoying to type it all the time).

gnomad2 is a very basic app. But it alows you to add and remove files without the syncro crap. I did not want my Zen Xtra with music already on it, be wiped out and reloaded with the music in the music library. It's a ituneish thing that prevents stupid people from physically transfering licenced music to another computer. Though gnomad2 leaves much to be desired, it works.

Thats good to know about the 9.3 packages. Ive been looking for Gnomad2 SLED 10 packages but found nothing. My issue isn't really getting the software anymore, but getting the permissions right so I can read/write to the Zen with my own account. I found that in order for libnjb to see the device I need to be logged in as root. I was able to read/write/create new playlists perfectly fine with kzenexplorer when logged on as root. It's just a pain in the ass to have to have to log on as root to work with my Zen Touch.

This happens when you run script files. Any time you do that you must su your self to root. Sometimes it's system wide, but other times it gets installed in root's home dir, and will belong to root.

Thats why I stick with RPMs.
