ATI 3D Broken Window re-draws slow

OK. The ATI drivers are driving me nuts.

At one point in the past 3D was working and all was right with the world. Somewhere along the line things started breaking. Now even window refreshes are slow.

EDIT: You will note from the glxinfo below that 3D appears to be enabled. It's a lie. Some screensavers do not work and if I try to start something 3D like Chromium BSU, the system locks up. One other annoyance, if I change to run level 3 and then back to 5, the Xserver does not restart.


Any suggestions?

Here are some system details.

Lenovo T60 with ATI Mobility Radeon X1400.

I am on OpenSuSE 10.2 with kernel version 2.6.18.8-0.9.

The ATI drivers are from the SuSE repository. They are:

ati-fglrxG01-kmp-default Ver: 8.47.3_2.6.18.8_0.9-1.1

New ATI Driver
I just noticed that ATI has posted a new driver as of yesterday.
