This is probably a simple thing but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. When SuSE is finished setting up your system via the 5 cd's, and the only installation source in there is the cd's, i get a lot of packages when I go to browse through them. Just now, I added 3 repositories and disabled my cd's as a source, and I get many many fewer packages to choose from, pretty much only the ones that I have already installed on my machine and just a handful of new ones. Two of the repositories I added are listed as "complete" on the suse website, and the other one is Guru's repository. Is this normal or have I done something wrong?
Why did you disable the CD? It's much faster to install fro CD than from the web. Could you please post the path to your other repositories as well, so we can see if something is wrong?
yeah its faster IF you have the CD's handy! I thought the point of a repository is so that you don't have to keep putting the cd's in every time you want to install something, AND you might get a few extra packages that others have added and updated packages. I'm at work now - I'll post the paths when I get home.
The point is that you don't need to deactivate the CD source. Just put it behind your online source and you are more flexible.
My guess about your problem is that you don't have a 'main' 9.3 repository in your list of installation sources. This main repository should point to the folder with the version number in the i386 directory of your favourite mirror. E.g. repositories that are below the 'supplementary' folder only contain certain updated packages (KDE/GNOME etc.).
Well I didn't put ANY 9.3 sources in there - I thought that since I was using 10.0 I didn't need it. But what you say makes perfect sense. I'll try that today and let you know! Also, I didn't realize that the CD didn't have to be turned off, just moved down. I may as well turn it back on! Thanks,
Sorry, I am not familiar with 10.0 online repositories, so I just assumed you were using 9.3. I am not sure if a full 10.0 online source has been released yet. In this case you rely on your CD's anyway.
You might want to look at this http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/178/42/
I honestly don't know if the advice at that link is good. I can recommend the Packman source mentioned there, or at least it has worked well for me in 9.2
EDIT: Did you notice the sticky at the top of this forum?
