Talking Another USB Flash Disk Question


Hi, I Have Suse10 Gr8

Except for one persistent problem - i have an MP3 player that is recognized in the hardware configuration, but does not mount............

it is an Elson and it comes up as such Gr8 - but i can't mount it (Also it has an SD card reader on the same unit if this information helps)

tried so far

turning on FAM, HALdaemon (although when i look at it in the system it has a star next to it - does this mean anything is wrong?)

fdisk -l

df -h

ummmmmmmm

Edited fstab

searched and searched and searched


and searched......


so it si recognized but not mounted

but I have another usb drive and it works no problems, same as my scanner, printer,Sony Camera

any sugestions will be gr8

Plugin the player any type 'dmesg' on console short after. You should see if and how the player is recognized (which device!). Then you can try to mount the device manually.

Question Dmesg output

i am in windows now but i am now able to find the device name

/sdb (from memory)

but it comes up with SCSI errors after recognizing it???

so aside from that i try to mount it and get a

can't read superblock error

any sugestions

When I had a similar problem with my USB external CD/RW and USB scanner I had a flashback to SuSE7.1 when it said SCSI error.

I did this and they worked! But only as root. The SuSE9.2 Users guide suggests
changing the sticky bit and group, but I haven't been able to get this to work for a
user.

md /media/cdrecorder
cd /dev
ln -sf scd0 cdrecorder
ln -sf scd1 scanner

Now if you do /dev/ls -la cdrecorder you should see symbolic links. I know this is
outdated but it works.
