snd_emu10k1 module is missing
I have not had sound in linux for months now and I haven't gotten much help anywhere but I think after reading hundreds of threads I'm getting closer to the answer. I have a SB Live! Dell that obviously has problems in Linux. It needs uses the emu10k1x module that doesn't come with alsa 1.0.3 that suse 9.1 has. For some reason yast recognizes my SB Live! card but it says that the module snd-emu10k1 couldn't be loaded. I have the alsa 1.0.7 rpm and tried to update my alsa drivers but it kicks out giving me a fatal error module snd_emu10k1 not found.
I have tried updating my alsa drivers many times and I wonder if I wrote over something trying to install alsa 1.0.6 (which never really worked). The only things that I don't have in Linux right now are my sound and my zip drive. If I could get these working I'd be incredibly happy.
Also, if this is going to be a persistent problem I have the Fedora Core3 disks and could install that but I don't know what any advantages would be by switching distros. I do know that Core3 comes with alsa 1.0.6 which is supposed to have emu10k1x support.
Please help.
