Question 9.3 USB wireless config 2570 ralink chipset

Okay .. I looked at various Howto's & they all claim that things will work - Haha .

Okay running SuSE 9.3 Retail Version - 2.6.11 kernel & am trying to get my wireless Belkin 2570 ralink based USB dongle to work.

I have set up a USB wireless thing in Yast Network card config & installed the 2570 driver (OSS version not Windows driver) with static addresses

The wireless config doesnt show up in Kinternet - it doesnt show any devices .

When I plug the USB dongle in the system gets a load of 10 (normal would be less than 1) & ip .. hald & hotplug running .

ip consumes 100% CPU

Messages are :

"
rt 2570 unsupported module tainting Kernel
id Vendor = 0x50d, idProduct = 0x7050
RT25usb Driver Version 1.0.0
hald : Timed out waiting for hotplug event 1060.Rebasing to 1062
"

Any ideas ?

I don't see any precompiled binaries from the vendor for 9.3.

http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm

You may need to compile it into your kernel.
make clone-config
make prepare-all
then recompile.

http://www.ralinktech.com/drivers/Li...2.0.6.0.tar.gz

I also don't see a 2570. There is a 2571, but perhaps it's the same.
The error you are getting is from a miscompiled driver. Give it a go again.

I was never able to get the drivers from the ralink web site to do anything. I tried the "rt2570 USB nightly CVS tarball" from this site, and it worked with no problems:

http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads

Build it from source and then modprobe the rt2570 module. Finally, open up YaST and configure the newly found network device. It should be smooth sailing from there. Let me know if you still have trouble.
