2 Questions

How could I change default programs for things to open in when either clicked on in Konqueror(both file managing and web broowsing) or when you download a file and Firefox promtps you what to open with? For example, instead of media opening in xanim, they would open in Kaffeine and pictures would open by default in Gwenview

Also, is there any cleaning programs like CCleaner for 9.3?

in Konqueror Settings -> configure konqueror -> file associations

don't use firefox anymore so I cant help you there

Thanks. Now I just need to do that with Firefox. I choose "other" to select the program, but I can't find the program afterwards

Hmm, seems as though most of the program files I was looking for are in /opt/kde3/bin, so I can choose the default program from there. Is that the right way or is there a better way?

you shouldn't have to know the path just the command to launch it like

kghostview

is what I like for reading pdf files if you don't know the command but you can find it in your kmenu right click the kmenu -> menu editor. you can get the commands for anything on your menu from there.

So basically, when I get prompted what to open a file with, I just click "Other" and instead of finding the full path to the app, I just type in the command for it. For example, instead of typing /opt/kde3/bin/kaffeine, I just type kaffeine %U ?

johnson_steve 05-15-2005 11:37 AM

yes that should work just fine. as long as the command is in your path

Maligogo90 05-15-2005 12:19 PM

Hmm, well tried several ways of using the command, and no luck, but using /opt/kde3/bin/kaffeine did work.

johnson_steve 05-15-2005 12:38 PM

strange. are you seting this from inside of firefox? did it do nothing or maybe open kaffeine without the movie you wanted?

Maligogo90 05-15-2005 12:42 PM

Ok, clicked the MPG clip, the Firefox download dialog box opens. Then I choose "Open With", then "other" to get kaffeine. I type in the command in several directories and it woulndt find it. When I replaced the command with the path, it worked flawlessly.

But with that comes another problem. The sound won't work when I play some clips on most sites I try with kaffeine

johnson_steve 05-15-2005 01:01 PM

you can use slocate to find the full path like:

slocate kghostview

I also had alot of problems with kaffeine including no sound on some clips I would sugest mplayer it plays almost everything I don't even have kaffeine any more.

Where can I get mplayer from?
