11.2 and Domains

I am having issues getting my Suse to connect to my company domain. I tried to run the Domain Membership in Yast2. I have also tried to edit all the files manually following guides from 10.3. Nothing has worked properly I am stumped.

If I run it through Yast2 I get "cannot write PAM Settings."

If I run "net ads join -U username" I will get the following error message "net_update_dns_internal: Failed to connect to our DC!"

Any advice or help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Lets start with the basics -

Does name resolution work correctly, forward and reverse?
Do you have connectivity ? (ping, telnet to an open port)
Is your time and date correct ? (auth can fail if the time is too far out)

We can move on to host issues if these are all ok

cheers

This thread is a few months old now, but, just in case it is still of interest, the answer (at least for me) is in bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555522.

The file /etc/pam.d/common-auth should really be a link to /etc/pam.d/common-auth-pc.
