10 RC1 kde locks up during start

Ok, just installed RC1. The first start, and every normal start afterward, kde would hard-freeze while it was starting up. Can't even move the mouse. I can run rc1 in failsafe, start kde with startx, and everything starts up fine.

Anyone have any idea whats going on?

thanks

What do you mean discs 3 and 5 were funny? Were there errors during the install?

I had to install RC1 twice ... the first time I did it the installer only selected 364 megs of files to install which I knew was wrong since 9.3 was far more than that. The second time I installed it came up with 3.1 gigs to install.

I used a DVD to install though. Perhaps there were issues during your install?

3 and 5 were funny in that they didn't load a python package, and a gtk development package.

I was wrestling with some terrible cdr's. Don't buy fujitsu. I guess i'll probably end up reinstalling as well, although i was hoping i wasnt the only one who had run into this.

Those two packages shouldn't stop KDE in its tracks ... perhaps someone else has a better idea what is happening.

You might also check /.xsession-errors to see if anything useful is in there ...

update

so one of the times i started RC1, it didn't crash in kde. i hadnt changed anything. all i had done was run 9.3 on another partition, and then restart. Kde started just fine, but then it locked up while i was fiddling around with the wireless.

Both times it locked up to the point where i couldnt move the mouse cursor.

So i went to great lengths to reinstall it and replace the funny cds. Did i mention fujitsu CDRs are crap? Anyway, they are. And after a clean reinstall, the problem is still going. Perhaps i have a bonified bug to report here?
