'Suspend to Disk' in Suse 9.3 really annoying me.

hi guys, as you can see i am newbie on this site perhaps you can see also that i created my account on this site today. I explored this site for a couple of weeks first and i found that it can help me in a most advanced way. I hope that till i have power to sit before computer and till my eyes glows with power of sighting, i will be a part of this wonderful site.

Any way, i start my travel on this site with a very minor problem which i am having in Novell SuSE 9.3 Professional....

Infact, if i do 'Suspend to Disk' in Linux and comes out. Second time when i switch the power on of my Computer System, it does not show Boot option window, from we choose Microsoft Windows login or Linux Login. It really harrases . No doubt Suspend to Disk ( Hibernation ) is quiet a very good facility. You can make computer sleep exactly at a place where you leave the work and you can resume from that point.

But Usually , Even having Suspended the Linux to Disk , you need to log into Windows next time. But you don't get that option.

i remember , strongly remember, SuSe 9.2 ( Earlier Version) , it was not so. I mean ,ever after suspended system to disk , you get the boot option screen.

Is it not so strange that in newer version , developer of SuSe withdraw that facilty.

any way

thanks & regards to all the memebers of this site.

I hope that i will gifted with a an wonderful answer soon of my problem.

thanks

I am not really sure if I understood your problem. From what I understand, your system works perfectly well.

'Suspend to disk', as you already expected, saves the content of the memory to your harddrive and hereby allows you to switch-off your computer and continue working where you stopped the last time, without the need to reboot.

But since the time consuming reboot is what 'suspend to disk' tries to avoid, you will not be given the choice between your operating systems. For this you will need to shutdown/reboot.

Since you describe that you got this option in your previous installation, I would assume that this was a missconfiguration and in fact a normal shutdown/reboot.

I hope I understood correctly and this information helps you somehow.

Hi Gurumeet,

Edit the file:
/usr/lib/powersave/scripts/sleep_helper_functions

Change the last 8 lines with '#' (comment all the 8 lines)
# grub-once()
# does the same as the grubonce script from the grub package:
# selects which menu entry to boot next.
#grub-once() {
# DEBUG "running grub-once $1" DIAG
# echo -e "savedefault --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 --default=$1 --once\nquit"\
# | grub --batch
#}

Suspend and then you can reboot to windows...

Confirm if this works (must work!)
