need snd_hdsp kernel module

greetings!

in order to use my RME Multiface hardware, i need the snd_hdsp kernel driver. when i power up with the Multiface attached, this is not automatically loaded and the Multiface is not recognized (i.e. tools like hdspmixer, hdspconf, and hdsploader can't find it). lsmod doesn't list snd_hdsp.

is snd_hdsp compiled as a module in the Studio 13.37 kernel? if so, what is the recommended way to load it?

if not, is there an alternate kernel available, or some other way to make this work?

snd_hdsp is the driver for various pro audio interfaces from RME, which are some of the most reliable and well-used high-end audio devices in the linux audio world -- i'm a bit surprised if support for this hardware hasn't been considered in development of Studio 13.37!

thanks much... cheers!

Code:
modprobe snd_hdsp
...successfully loads the module, and the various hdsp* tools now see the card. now i just need to go grab the multiface_firmware_rev11.bin file from somewhere so hdsploader can load the firmware.

what's the recommended method of making snd_hdsp load automatically in Studio 13.37?

cheers!

ok, i grabbed the alsa-firmware source from alsa-project.org and compiled/installed it. so now hdsploader has what it needs to load the multiface firmware. however, it fails like this:

Code:
sh-4.1# hdsploader
hdsploader - firmware loader for RME Hammerfall DSP cards
Looking for HDSP + Multiface or Digiface cards :
Card 0 : RME Hammerfall DSP at 0xf1c00000, irq 19
Upload firmware for card hw:0
Hwdep ioctl error on card hw:0 : Invalid argument.
Card 29 : ThinkPad Console Audio Control at EC reg 0x30, fw unknown
anyone have any clues about why i'm getting the "Hwdep ioctl error"?

thanks... cheers!

after a reboot, Studio 13.37 appears to Do The Right Thing!!

...both snd_hdsp and the multiface firmware load automatically on boot.

also hdspmixer and hdspconf recognize the Multiface, and run fine.

now to start some testing with Jack and getting Puredata installed!

cheers!
