Email inquiry - Hydrogen window cut off on my eee-pc
Hi,
When I start hydrogen it clips the bottom of the display off because I am viewing on a netbook which has a height of 600 only. Do you know what I can do to get it to display any better? I have clicked the "maximise" button with no change. [name withheld] |
Hi [name withheld],
So it won't resize past a certain minimum? A cool thing about IceWM is that if you right-click on a window's button in the taskbar (where it shows Hydrogen when you minimize it to get it to pop back up) you can select move, and even move the window partially off the screen if necessary. Maybe try changing the screen resolution? Hope that helps. |
Did you get 'er figured out?

Hi,
I tried the "move" and it is useful, but only moves the window as one entire block, it does not "scroll" the window, so still leaves some of the hydrogen control functions outside the movable window. Also, once the window has "popped" up to the top of the screen, the "move" bar is off the top of the screen and cannot be grabbed again, so hydrogen sits on top of everything else and stops me accessing the minimised programs. I will keep trying things as I get time. [name withheld] |
You can switch to jwm by changing /etc/windowmanager from "icewm" to "jwm" and restarting, but I haven't even tried that, and it used to mess up Ardour... which is why it always comes with icewm.
I've experienced your problem before using other programs (not on Studio 13.37), and I know it sucks. Unfortunately, it seems like some programs are designed to only open at a minimum size. Sometimes that's cause by the gtk theme, but in this case it's the limited screen real estate of your eee-pc. Did you have this problem before? Good luck. |
Yes, I think you are right that 600 pixels height just does not offer enough real estate for Hydrogen. Never mind.

Does the trick of holding down Alt then left-clicking anywhere in the window work with icewm? It's not perfect but means you can move the title bar out of the visible window, use something, then move it further out of the screen.

I'm not sure I see what's going on there, can't you pull the bottom of the window down now to see more of the contents?

Thanks heaps. . |
Cool, glad I could help. I struggled with the same thing when I first put a new version of Linux on my netbook.

I just got a reply back from the Hydrogen developers - it looks like they have released a newer version which is optimised for netbooks. Here is my question and their reply:

Compile it then.
