wipe tool for solaris.


Hi,

I would like to wipe entire solaris box.

Please let me know wipe tool for solaris.

Thanks Jlliagre, but my requirement is only wiping entire os not the reinstallation.

It is unclear what you are asking. Do you need to keep anything ? If for security reasons, wiping the data, i.e. anything non OS related, would be more advisable the wiping the OS itself.

If you have an x86 or amd64 then you can boot to almost any live media to use a tool like dd.

dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda bs=1M Where sdx is your hard drive in question.

Or get a Ultimate boot cd. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and use wipe tools.


If you have a sparc then you may a different set of tasks.

It may be possible to boot to single user and then mount disk and wipe it. Might check to see what tools are in openbios. Might be a tool there.

Thanks Jefro, is it possible booting into single user mode from cd to wipe out entire box sparc box?

Whether on SPARC or x86, you can boot from a Solaris installation CD and run a shell.
From there, you can use dd to overwrite the disks, jefro's command will do although the disk naming will be different.

From a Solaris "live CD" or net boot, you can use one of the subcommands of the "format" tool to wipe disks securely.
