Having an issue after patching a Solaris 9 server, it appears that normal users cannot login. I enabled direct root login and root logs in without an issue.
I have tried the following:
ssh as a normal user with a command. (works)
example: ssh foobar uptime
change my shell to something else (doesn't help)
I added a line to the end of my .profile and I also hard set my path (doesn't work)
# cat /home/blink/.profile
# This is the default standard profile provided to a user.
# They are expected to edit it to meet their own needs.
MAIL=/usr/mail/${LOGNAME:?}
PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin
PS1="\u@\h \w -->"
alias x=clear
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/sbin
echo end of .profile
when I ssh I get the following:
ssh foobar
Authorized uses only. All activity may be monitored and reported.
end of .profile
mesg: cannot stat
I've also minimized /etc/profile, changed /etc/motd, /etc/issue and I see changes but none allow me to log in.
To me it looks like it's after my .profile is read.
I also checked /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow for errors and ran pwconv just in case and still nothing.
/etc/ssh/sshd_config and /etc/ssh/ssh_config look like working servers.
Still researching it, Co-worker found an error related to language US-en or something similar, It quit working after a patch cluster so I'm trying to figure it out rather than back it out.
Something other strange things...
when I ssh foobar /bin/bash I get in and can run some commands. (ls, uptime, etc) however it appears that the disk isn't syncing like I tried to create a tar file and it looked like it worked but then nothing was created. I edited my .profile and removed a line that echoed to the screen and the next time I logged in it still looked like it was there.
