Hi guys,

I just questions regarding mirroring in solaris currently i have 2 disk c0t0d0 & c0t2d0(new). the partition layout of c0t0d0 is:

Quote:
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
0 root wm 67 - 917 6.52GB (851/0/0) 13671315
1 swap wu 1 - 51 400.06MB (51/0/0) 819315
2 backup wm 0 - 2084 15.97GB (2085/0/0) 33495525
3 reserved wm 52 - 58 54.91MB (7/0/0) 112455
4 reserved wm 59 - 66 62.75MB (8/0/0) 128520
5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
7 home wm 918 - 2084 8.94GB (1167/0/0) 18747855
8 boot wu 0 - 0 7.84MB (1/0/0) 16065
9 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
if i am going to mirror both root & home what would be the partition layout of my 2nd disk? should it be the same with my 1st disk?

Greetingz!

The partition layout doesn't have to be *identical*, however the sizes of each slice need to be the exact same amount of blocks.
Also, do you *never* plan on mirroring the other partitions? (P.S: "Quote" tags suck for code, use [code] tags)

Most people would want to use the same slice-numbers just to avoid confusion (nothing like 'accidentally' resync'ing the wrong metadevices to earn a smoke break in the morning!)

Quick-n-Easy Copy-The-Whole-Partition-Table-Over-To-The-New-Disk
Code:
prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c0t2d0s2
EDIT: By the way, you're going to need a tiny slice to store your metadb's. I'd suggest 32mb, and 3 metadb copies. You'll need that slice unmirrored, and on both disks.

No problem. I love DiskSuite/Solaris Volume Manager questions. I've seen enough weird setups over the years that it gets pretty hard to stump me.
