Sparc Sunblade 100 not booting CD-ROM

Hi!, I am having the following problem. I cannot seem to boot from the CD-ROM on my Sun Blade 100.

Here is my current setup. I have a DVD-ROM on IDE 1 primary master, no slave. I then have on IDE2 2 IDENTICAL 20GB
hard drives.

I believe this is a hardware issue but before I go crazy and rip out the defective DVD-ROM I wanted to get some
feedback on if this is a boot-prom error.

Here is my boot prom settings. I have issued a set-defaults to reset all aliases to defaults. I also issued a reset-all
before grabbing any info.

Here is my error:

ok boot cdrom

Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@1,0:f File and args:

Can't read disk label.

Can't open disk label package

Can't open boot device

------------------------------------------------------------

First a probe-ide shows the following. #Clearly the DVD-ROM is detected

ok probe-ide

Device 0 ( Primary Master )

Removable ATAPI Model: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-8000

Device 1 ( Primary Slave )

Not Present

Device 2 ( Secondary Master )

ATA Model: MDT MD200BB-00DGA0

Device 3 ( Secondary Slave )

ATA Model: MDT MD200EB-00CPF0

-----------------------------------------------------------

A devalias shows:

cdrom2 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@2,0:f

cdrom1 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@1,0:f

cdrom /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@1,0:f

disk /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@0,0

disk3 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@3,0

disk2 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@2,0

disk1 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@1,0

disk0 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@0,0

-----------------------------------------------------------

What I am unclear on is how to reference the CD-ROM on IDE controller 1-

I have done the following:

ok nvalias cdrom3 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@0,0:f

ok boot cdrom3

Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@0,0:f File and args:

failed to read super block

failed to read super block

failed to read super block

Boot load failed.

The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.

-------------------------------------------------------------

ok nvalias cdrom4 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@0,1:f

ok boot cdrom4

Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@0,1:f File and args:

Short disk read

The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong and if this seems like the CD-ROM is truely defective.

Thanks

Assuming you checked the media on another reader, this looks like faulty H/W. Likely the drive itself.

Greetingz!
You need to change the devalias for your CD-ROM. Since it's a Primary Master, it should be cdrom@0,0:f, not cdrom@1,0:f.

To do this, run the following at the OBP;
Code:
devalias cdrom /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@0,0:f
(I have the same system, and remember running into that problem years-back.)
