can you run /etc/init.d/network to restart network services on a solaris 9 box? is it the same as ifconfig eth0 down and up? thanks in advance

I'm not sure it's supported. This script is doing more than just ifconfig, depending on what configuration files are found. What exactly do you expect this command to do ? What services do you want to restart ?

Well, I know in redhat you can run "service network restart", Im just wondering what the equivalence is in solaris 8-9. Anyone know?

The equivalence is to update to something newer, like Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris, and use:
Code:
svcadm restart network
Solaris 9 was released in 2002 and is lacking the dependency management required to have this working properly.

jlliagre, I understand Solaris 9 is a tad old but I would like to know since I work in an environment with solaris 8, 9, and 10. Thanks.
