Try to boot a VirtualBox VM on that DVD to make sure it isn't corrupted.

Is this Solaris 11.2 ?

Going to stick it out getting the DVD to boot.

This is a 5 year old system.

It has bios @2010 version not UEFI.

Put Verbose and -r switch in GRUB file for text install option.

When it booted, it got through about 20 lines and hung

after PCI blank, did not right down the exact line.

I am going to test Openindiana Live Media install and see what the results are.

Thank you

same thing happens with Openindiana

starts to boot up and stops at black screen w/copyright notice

PCBSD 8 installs just fine and it's same vintage as computer,

so I think latest releases of Solaris and Openindiana just

don't support older systems

when system is upgraded I'll go at it again.

thanks

What AMD CPU model is it ?

You might try booting in forced text mode and under the kernel debugger control by adding at the end of the GRUB $multiboot line:
Code:
-kv -B console=force-text
Others things that might help can be experimenting with the BIOS options (ACPI, virtualization extensions, ...).

If I remember right, the ACPI setting in BIOS was Auto.

Should it be Enabled or Disabled instead?

I think there was a Virtual item in BIOS,

I don't think it it included Extension in the title.

thanks
