Solaris 10 8/07 NOT booting to CDE when Network cable UNPLUGGED
 

Hi,

I hope you guys can really help....

OK, when my network cable is UNPLUGGED when I boot into Solaris, it does not want to boot into my desktop at all and I receive the following message below. I managed to reboot the system WITH the cable now plugged-in....and it DID boot to my Desktop....How can I solve this issue with the network cable being unplugged whenever Solaris boots?
iprb0: NO MII LINK DETECTED....and then 3 minutes later, I get this also...
FAILED TO OBTAIN IPV4 DHCP IP ADDRESS or something like that...I cannot remember the whole error message line...And BTW, how can I dig these back up to go back on what I saw???
Is there anyway I can boot into the CDE Desktop WITHOUT the network cable being plugged in?


On my desktop PC it does the same, however I am able to boot into the desktop after like waiting 5 minutes or so....(WITHOUT THE NETWORK CABLE PLUGGED)
This says the same message also...
rtls0: FAILED TO CONFIGURE IPV4 DHCP...

So why does it hang when the network cable is unplugged???

On my laptop, I had to download a third-party network driver....

On my Desktop PC, my driver cam bundled with Solaris 10 8/07...

My connection type is behind a Linksys Router using DHCP of course....
And when its PLUGGED in, everything works great without delays...


Please help....This is VERY strange...

This issue is no more present with Solaris Express and nwam.

If you want to be able to boot quickly Solaris 10 with the network cable unplugged, either don't configure it to use DHCP or use something like inetmenu http://opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/inetmenu/ .

Now what about my desktop PC?

It boots after like 5 to 8 minutes to the desktop without the NIC plugged in.
Same problem, but manages to boot after 5 minutes to desktop.

How can I solve this?

Inetmenu can be installed on your desktop PC too.

Ok, so how will this shorten the boot time without my NIC cable plugged in?

I have it plugged into my system everytime...but what can I with this program to be able to boot into the desktop without the cable plugged in to my PC?

And by the way, I dont have OpenSolaris, I have Solaris 10 8/07

Issue resolved from testing...

It was the NTP Time Service that was causing this boot issue without the cable being plugged in...
Of course...no Internet connection will loose the time server and therefore that was the issue...

Now....what does this have to do in NOT booting into the desktop????
Because in Windows...when theres no internet or network detected...its sill boots into the desktop system.

So, I had disabled the Time Service under Solaris and now seems to work...

But still, when theres no internet connection, then what does the desktop system have to do with it????
That part I dont fully get...Can you please explain this?

Because that is one of inetmenu purpose.
Nobody's perfect ...

Anyway, I got it working for both machines now.

I disabled DHCP, and just entered the IPs of both machines manually instead.
