Question OpenSolaris Live Disc not booting well.

Hello,

I have a machine with 512 MB RAM (the rest of the hardware details in my signature) and I downloaded OpenSolaris Live via torrent named: os200805.iso.torrent.

I tried booting that on my AMD Turion notebook, and it booted off well, but without any audio or power management support. But it did boot.

On my desktop machine (mentioned earlier), the live CD didn't work well - it got really slow once it got to loading the GUI to the point that I had to pull the plug and reboot the system. No number of tries helped.

I wanted to shift to this OS from Fedora, but this made me change my mind. I use this system as my network server and I don't want it to go so slow.

Can anyone please provide me with the insights into this problem? Whats going wrong and why?

I thought about this, and as a hint, my system ran pretty slow on a 64 bit installation of Fedora 9 as well - since my processor is 64 bit compatible but has just 512 MB RAM.

So, what I'd like to do here is to force boot/install in 32 bit mode, rather than 64 bit mode, but I have no idea how to do that.

From what I understand of the situation, Solaris first detects the kind of processor and then boots in the detected mode.

Can anyone please answer if I'm right?
