Open Solaris 2009.06 hangs at probing device nodes

Hi all,

I've been attempting to boot Open Solaris 2009.06 off a live disc and it hangs at "Probing for device nodes". This is the version we use in my uni course and I have tried using ISO I ripped from a disc we were provided with in class as well as an ISO that is provided to students on the intranet all with no success. I'm attempting to boot this on an ASUS N53SV which I have also updated the BIOS to version 215 but like I said still no success. Thanks in advance for any advice.

To investigate, you can pass the -kv option to the kernel through the grub menu but perhaps a simpler solution would be to try booting a newer release like OpenIndiana.

I would suggest you setup a Virtual Machine for this (unless you're taking a hardware+software dependent course, like driver design).
Depending on your "host" OS that is already on the ASUS N53SV, you may want to look into Virtual Box (free, here), VMware WorkStation ($$$, here), VMware Server (free, here)
