Got something strange going on and I can't quite figure it out. It appears every hour on the half hour time goes back an hour.
Example:
# date ; sleep 240 ; date
Tue May 27 11:27:01 MDT 2008
Tue May 27 10:31:01 MDT 2008
# grep -v "#" /etc/inet/ntp.conf
driftfile /etc/inet/ntp.drift
server 172.18.7.1
I can set the time manually and it's fine until the half hour then it rolls back. I checked cron and I don't see anything for root, sys, or adm that is out of the ordinary.
Is your timezone set correctly? (How to fix: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Timezone-in-Linux)
What is in your driftfile? (mine is at /var/lib/ntp/drift and contains 0.0)
Is 172.18.7.1 a trusted time-server?
telnet 172.18.7.1 13
If it gives you time, it works, but is it right.
telnet time-a.nist.gov 13
Just found these lines at the top of my ntp.conf:
Quote:
# Permit time synchronization with our time source, but do not
# permit the source to query or modify the service on this system.
restrict default nomodify notrap noquery

This is a firmware issue limited to specific enterprise hardware for which the users will certainly have sunsolve access and a support contract. The document describe both a workaround and a patch.
Could you give us the gist, others might have this issue as well.

Sorry can't quote the page
Basically the SC is off and is overriding NTP. ONe of the other guys said if we would have taken it to the OK prompt and then did a reset it would have worked for a while also.

Sorry about that but I'm afraid you are breaking LQ rules by publishing an excerpt of copyrighted and restricted access material on this posting. According to the SLA on SunSolve, it is illegal to redistribute any information from SunSolve.
