I use VirtualBox to install an OS, the PC runs Open Solaris, the VirtualBox is for Solaris, on that I need to install an OS. It installs nicely, but I cannot hook up to the network from inside the box. The settings are set to NAT and, of course, the NIC is enabled. My host (OpenSolaris) gets a dynamic IP address from my DHCP, I can hook up (ping Google and browse) to the Internet from OpenSolaris, the OS in the box is set to get a dynamic IP address as well - I hope it would get hooked up to the host system but allas.
Any hints? I've used VirtualBox for about an hour now and already run out of (clever) ideas...
Sincere apologies! I have found it. One needs to select annother NIC. In the settings, select "networking" - I had a PCI 3 card (or something) - I selected another one (PCI 2) and I seem to be in bizz!
Adding a second interface shouldn't be required though. VirtualBox internal dhcp server provides the necessary setting that allow NAT guests to connect to the Internet assuming the host already can do it.
Eh, possibly one of the (invisible) reasons why I got it working. Wanted to see if I could set up a shielded test environment that can easily be deleted without a complete re-install of the rest of the system. I met my goal fully...
