I have a Sun system that is running version 5.8 and I'm having a problem with either java or the video card. The display looks fine until I try to open java gui and then the colors go crazy on the screen. After you close the app it goes back to normal. It only happen in java programs. Any idea what I should do here? thanks for the help!
Also, I'm more of a Linux guy and just getting into Sun. Would anyone recommend some Sun forums for silly little problems like this? Thanks again!
Are you running in 24-bit color? If not, you should. Running in 24-bit color seems to cure a multitude of bizarre display issues in Solaris (including SunRay and Sun Secure Global Desktop configurations)!
Thanks for the response! I'm not sure if I'm running in 24-bit. How would I check that? I thought running "kdmconfig" would allow me to make the change. Do I need to run something like "m64config -res 1280x1024x75 -depth 24" or similar? Thanks again!
If it's a SPARC box of the era that would have had 5.8, m64config is most likely what you need to use (*most* Sun video cards seem to work with m64config). If it's an x86/x64 box, I'm not so knowledgable, but kdmconfig sounds right...
Also, for documentation, etc. you'll want to get to to know http://sunsolve.sun.com ! Lots of good resources there!
