Update: I bought an Intel Q9450 + P45 Gigabyte EP45-DS3P motherboard + Ati 4850 and everything works fine. I am using the AOC Sata PCI-X card which has 8 Sata ports, for my ZFS raid (i've posted about it earlier here, search for my name). I havent tested the mobo's sata together with Solaris.
UPDATE: with later builds of OpenSolaris build 91 and later, some regressions are introduced. It doesnt work to fine anymore.
1. Is Realtek 8111C NIC supported now?
2. kebabbert, what Solaris version do you use with your DS3P?
3. DS3P has Intel ICH10R which is supported by Solaris?
4. Which Solaris version has the best support for hardware?
5. There is different versions of ZFS in the different distros of Solaris?
kebabbert, what solaris version did/do you use with your EP45-DS3P?
You haven't added that motherboard to the HCL yet... I have been searching info about the compatibility of (Open)Solaris and Gigabyte (E)P45 chipset and your info is the only concrete one that I have found.
kebabbert, did you have any problems with the installation of Solaris with DS3P? I'm now trying to install SXCE with the same MB and Q9550 and I'm hitting the same wall every time. Installation hangs on "Configuring /dev". With -v option to the kernel command I have tried to locate the problem but haven't localized it yet. I'm suspecting the DVD drive but I can't think of why it could be that. More info on the problem here
