install program in solaris

I have downloaded the ser router program and want to compile it on solaris 10 x86

can someone give me clue that how to get started with compilation in solaris 10

On unpacking the tar, I find a makefile but I think that ./configure make and make install were for linux ? On issuing the command make or gcc I get a command not found message

In a default Solaris 10 installation the various programs needed to compile sources are located in /usr/sfw/bin and /usr/ccs/bin.
You have to add these directories in your PATH before trying to run ./configure.

[Edit]
Or better you can follow jkzfixme's advice and install the native Solaris package

actually I wanted to compile sems, you are right, ser is already installed in solaris 10, I just mentioned it as more people are familiar with ser.

@bathory

I have added the mentioned directories to the path , however now when I try to do make I get an error that

" Fatal error in reader: Makefile, line 4: Unexpected end of line seen" ?

You can use gmake instead of make to see if it works.

Thanks, it did compile with gmake and created lots of files, gave a success message, but did not create any binary that can be executed

It looks like the source code doesn't compile. Might be a bug or non portable construction in the code. You should contact sems developers. That guy might help:
