IBM X235 ServerRAID5 Controller/Solaris 10

I have been trying to get Solaris 10 installed on my IBM x 235 server with a ServerRAID Controller 5i. The first attempt I could not install Solaris 10 because it could not find the controller. I found a driver on opensolaris.org and the install instructions are such:

http://opensolaris.org/os/community/...cts/serveraid/

It say:

PHP Code:
    install driver binary manually

    1. copy ips 32 bit driver to
/kernel/drv (i386 platform)

1. copy ips 64 bit driver to /kernel/drv/amd64/ (amd64 platform)

2. add_drv -'"$DEVICEID"' -c scsi ips
    NOTE
the format of DEVICEID is:

pcixxxx,xxx

install package of ips driver

    1. copy ips driver package to
/export/home
    2. cd
/export/home
    3. pkgadd
-./

4. install ips package in terms of prompts
So if I choose option 5 during the installation of Solaris 10(add drivers), how would I mount the cdrom and install the drivers and the rerun the setup from the Solaris 10 cdrom?

Interesting! I am having trouble mounting the cdrom to copy over the ips driver for the controller!

Is there a trick from this type of install?

Also that article if for PXE installs or having to rebuld an ISO which I will probably do. Why would Solaris make this so difficult to add drivers when they know that there will be many different types of of hardware that they will comes across. I cannot believe that what people say that this is the best UNIX distro. What a pain in the #$%@#$%

This situation where a mandatory driver is missing to complete a basic installation is quite uncommon.

Solaris installation is an area where there is a lot of room for improvement. It is beeing working on: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/caiman/

Caiman looks better, I guess once they put that together then I am sure it will win over a larger crowd but until then I will recompile the ISO.(PAIN in Bumper). thanks
