If i have a solaris 10 box that supports hotswap disks, can i just swap a standalone disk when the system is running, and do i need to type any command to find the new disk.... because i tried this and issued the command devfsadm, but i cant fint any new disk with the format utility, do i need to go into singel mode, or any other command ?

What is your Sun production?
In sun Fire V440 case, cfgadm is needed before hotswaping disk.

Hi, i typed wrong, its a Fujitsu Siemens Primepower with Sparc and Solaris 10, and i do have the cfgadm tool. Could you give me a hint about how this works, do i need to type "cfgadm disconnet <device>" before removing the device for example ?

cfgadm is a command for hotplug.
# cfgamd -al ( list the all attach-point )
# cfgamd -c unconfigure ap_ID
Please man cfgadm for more details.
