gcc on Solaris
I have Solaris 9 installed on my Ultra Sparc 10 Workstation and would like to install gcc on the box.
Has anyone on here done this before? Any pointers? I would also like to be able to install OpenSSH as well. Is gcc on one of the Software Disks or OpenSSH? TIA |
Check out this site which has tons of free software for Solaris: http://www.sunfreeware.com/

Thanks man

SSH is available in the media kit; however, I'm not sure about gcc. If it is, it would probably be on disk 2.
|
Would it also be availabe through the Solaris 9 download on Disk 1 or Disk 2?
What is the package name I should look for? TIA |
Hi,
The pakage name of is SFWgcc. And it is on the "Solaris Software Companion CD". SSH is installed by default. |

Is sshd installed as well? If it is, it isn't running and I would like to use it instead of Telnet. There's a lot of stuff I need to learn. I'm pretty good at Linux but I'm just a newb when it comes to Solaris. I'm assuming a lot of this stuff can be done with the admintool. My biggest concern is doing this all by command line and not GUI. TIA |
Do a "pkginfo -l | grep -i ssh"
It should be installed by default. The admintool is very good for User/Group and Printer-Management. You can also do many things with the Solaris Management Console which I avoid to use ;) In my oppinion Solaris is best administrated using the cmd-line :) |
