UNIX has the keys mapped to functionality different than that on other OSes due to tradition. See some of these link:

http://www.tech-recipes.com/solaris_...n_tips164.html

Try also using Bash (instead of Csh), or typing:

Code:
$ stty sane

It would help too if you tell more about the context.

What terminal emulator or application are you using ?

What did you expect the delete key to do and what happen instead ?

You can always use CTL-X to delete a highlighted character or word or line.

I am not using any terminal emulator. in solaris command prompt (bash shell) , when i press DEL key it prints like this: ~~~~~ instead of deleting. Also while using vi editor , I could not edit properly.

You do run a terminal emulator. Real terminals are just extinct nowadays.

What returns "ptree $$" from the CLI ?
