connecting to the internet with solaris 10

Hi everyone, I just installed solaris 10 and am trying to connect it to the internet. My place has cable internet.
I want to add my ip address to the /etc/hosts file, but when I do a "hostname | nslookup", then "ifconfig -a" to find out my ip address the terminal reads "connection timed out; no servers could be reached".

I have not done anything else to connect this laptop to the internet, so if I'm mising something really obvious please let me know.

Although you are not too specific, here are some hints...

Have you configure your dns files (/etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf?)
Is your route ok? (type netstat -rn or add a route via the "route add" command)
