configure network to communicate between two Virtual Machines.

Hi all,

I am using Dell Latitude D610 Laptop.

I have installed Parallels Workstation for windows Version 2.2 Build 2204. I need to install two Solaris 10 OS and have connectivity between them.

The setting for network Adapter is Bridged Ethernet and I have chosen my LAN adapter "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport". Also, I have tried giving default adapter also. But still I am not getting options to give IP in the virtual OS, I am not even able to recognize my network interface. Generally, network interface is shown while booting.

Anyone can help me out please. I have tried Microsoft Virtual PC too but in it even installation of Solaris doesnt starts up.

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this quest.

Thanks in advance,
Vikas

Are the (virtual) NICs you selected supported by Solaris ?

What says /usr/X11/bin/scanpci ?

The NIC you are showing in this screenshot isn't supported by Solaris. Did you install a suitable third party driver ?

You could have installed the driver bundled with parallels:

http://www.unixville.com/node/240

Alternatively, VirtualBox allows Solaris as both a host and a guest OS.

Hi Jlliagre,

Thanks mate. VirtualBox was exactly something I was looking for. I have installed two Solaris instances and both are pinging each other fine.

Thanks a ton

Cheers Vikas

Hello Vikas,

Did you use network mode "Host Interface" to have the Solaris guests ping eachother?

Thanks, C

No, I have chosen "Internal Network" in "Attached to" field.

Hi Vikas,

Could you please help me to configure rhel5 on virtual box as I am not able to ping them from virtual box.
Means our system are not communicating.
Thanks-

ping is currently unsupported in NAT mode. That doesn't means the system isn't communicating.

Buddy, Virtual Box is best for Solaris.
See in my opinion and experience I found RHEL 5 best running on Parallel Workstation rather than Microsoft Virtual PC, VMWare Workstation or Virtual Box.

The best way to access RHEL (or any unix box on VM) is access it through putty provided you dont wanna work on GUI.

Hope this helps, get back to me if you face any other problem, will try to sort it out.

Regards
VIKAS
