compressing a directory with zip utility

Hi all,
zip utility behaves differently from jar utility when compressing directory.

Code:
ahmed~>jar -cvf myvideos.jar videos/
added manifest
adding: videos/(in = 0) (out= 0)(stored 0%)
adding: videos/vd/(in = 0) (out= 0)(stored 0%)
adding: videos/vd/exhibition.avi(in = 10485760) (out= 10203)(deflated 99%)
adding: videos/vd/opening.avi(in = 13631488) (out= 13263)(deflated 99%)
adding: videos/vd/happyfaces.mp4(in = 5242880) (out= 5110)(deflated 99%)
ahmed~>zip myvideos.zip videos/
  adding: videos/ (stored 0%)
ahmed~>
How can I make the zip utility compress a directory with its contents?
