Compile and run gtk application under SunOS and use it with Hummingbird exceed in win
Hi
I'd like to ask for advice. I am fairly new to linux, programming under linux, gtk and gnome, but I am starting to deep my tose in it. I want to write a GUI application that will be stored on a SunOS server and executed from there. I am using windows xp and I use "Hummingbird exceed" to remotely access the SunOS server. When the application is started in the SunOS, it would need to popup on the windows xp desktop inside the exceed. I checked and I can start the xclock and xcalc under SunOS and get the GUI on my windows xp desktop. I als wrote a GUI with java and it works fine in the same way. But gtk impresed me and I want to use that. I installed redhat and gtk at home and started learning gtk programming and got my "hello world" app up. But I can't at the moment compile gtk under SunOS 1) due to lack of my knowledge 2) due to lack of permissions I guess to install gtk. so my question:
Can what I want to do be done? (i.e., have a gtk GUI app compiled and run under SunOS and be used by windows xp with the help of Hummingbird exceed?
Thanks for the reply.
I did download from sunfreeware.com, but I had difficulty installing it. Yo already explained that (I would need administrative rights). Nevertheless, I found some sort of gtk installed on the server (I found the header files). It will take me sometime to find how to use it as my environmental variables are not set correctly ( I think that's the problem)
Nevertheless, it is it possible to have a gtk GUI app compiled and run under SunOS and be used remotely by windows xp with the help of Hummingbird exceed?

Exceed is providing a X service to the Windows platform, any X11 application should work, although you may have issues with missing fonts or missing extensions.
Thanks a lot for the info. In fact, you were right. I found gimp installed on the server and ran it. It works perfectly fine through the X11 and exceed. Now what I need to do is to get my environmental variables set correctly so that I can compile my own GTK application and test it. Now that.... is not proving to be easy...
