Question Color Depth in Solaris 9 + Ultra 10 Creator 3D

Hello!

After installing solaris 9 (All packages + OEM) on Ultra 10 Creator 3D workstations, The color depth is limited to 8 bit. The 'ffbconfig -depth 24' command prints that -depth and 24 are invalid arguments. The 'ffbconfig -res 1024x768x75' command changes the resolution. 'ffbconfig -prconf' shows only resolution, not color depth. Adding depth option in OWconfig does not make any difference.

How to set the color depth to 24 bits?

TIA,
PYM.

There is no "-depth" option to the ffbconfig command, as it is always in 24 bit (32 or 96 memory planes) AFAIK.

Can you send the output of xdpyinfo command ?

I think you should have a look at the X server launch file:
/usr/dt/config/Xservers
and check if the "defdepth 24" option is passed to it.

After copying /usr/dt/config/Xservers to /etc/dt/config/Xservers, The command was modified

From :
:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner
To :
:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner defdepth 24

But there is no change.

Appended here is the output of xdpyinfo.

Thanks,
PYM

From the xdpyinfo output, it looks you have 24 planes available:
Quote:
visual id: 0x28
class: TrueColor
depth: 24 planes
available colormap entries: 256 per subfield
red, green, blue masks: 0xff, 0xff00, 0xff0000
significant bits in color specification: 8 bits
The default (root window) is 8 planes only though, just because you're missing a "-" I presume, try:

:0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner -defdepth 24
