Choosing between Solaris 10 and Solaris Express to run sun xVM hypervisor
Hi guys.
I'm going to take a decision about using Sun xVM hypervisor in a production environment to run some HVM guest domains. The doubt is this: personally, I'd rather stick with Solaris 10 in production and it seems that xVM server is going to be shipped (pretty soon) for this platform. The other choice would be installing Solaris Express and I wouldn't find myself so comfortable at the idea of running an unsupported version of Solaris just to have xVM. Besides, should I expect the version for Solaris 10 having the same functionality it nowadays has on Solaris Express? Sorry if I post this here but really found no detailed information. Sun documentation and white papers, when talking about Sun xVM, often say "Solaris" and then they're always telling about Solaris Express which is rather funny because I wouldn't expect clients deploying Solaris Express in production. Thank you, Enrico. |

That being said, it does have its advantages. You could always corner your Sun rep, and make them give you an answer, in writing, as to what's supported. If you have any problems doing it, they'll usually be glad to get you a person/phone-number/docs, on how to do exactly what you're trying to do. |
