hi, i am new to solaris.... i am unable to use all slices in my vmware(solaris 10). whe n i am using Format command ... at the time of labeling it shows , cant label mounted partition,,, i want to use all slices for SVM... what should i do..... is there any procedure to create new slices........
Distribution: Slackware (mainly) and then a lot of others...

Hope you have read the installation document (if there is any) with solaris.
The thing here is the way the kernel sees the hard drive. Due to some calculation with cylenders and accessible areas of the hard drive it is possible that there is some part of the hard drive that is not seen by the kernel.
What I would suggest here is: format the entire drive as the /.
I think this issue has been sorted out with the x64 architecture, I am not sure though.

Please provide more details about your current partition and slice layout and what you want to change in it.

i have 6 slices..... c0d0s1 t0 c0d0s6...... as per my procedur for installation process, there i allotted partition in following manner.
/ 15000
swap 1024
/usr 5000
/opt 6000
/var 5000
/export/home 10000
when i am executing format command f0r 1, 2 . 3 , 4 , 5. it shows while labeling that cannot label the partition is mounted on so and so..... same prolem with newfs command.....
please give me detailed solution,,, if possible with command.....
is there any other procedure.... this procedure is tought by my teacher.... and he is not in contact with me... if have solution then plpz inform mme....
