Can someone help please - what is pkgadd?


Hello all,

Please bear with me I am new to Solaris and only been using Linux for a week now, although I know Windows very well as a programmer.

Ok, we send peridic updates of our software package to a client, and they have just told us that we need to use pkgadd. Could someone please give me a paragraph on what this is all about - big picture? Is it like InstallShield or something in Windows?

I also want to know if there is a nice convenient GUI program that will do this for me, instead of th worrying number of peculiar commands I have seen that it seems to involve!

Its a 4 processor Sun OS system, sorry I don't know much more than that.

It's a package installation program. Pretty straightforward
pkgadd -d package_name

Well, installation of a Solaris package for an end user is pretty straightforward, but package creation is a little bit more complicated.
