Best free backup software? Amanda?

I'm wondering what is currently available in terms of free backup software for Solaris...

I've heard of Amanda (a long time ago) but have never used it. There is no response from Amanda dot org site so I wonder if it is still active...

Can anyone suggest a better alternative for backup...

Well, yes there are backup software that runs on Solaris, for example Veritas Netbackup, Legato Networker (bought over by EMC) and BakBone software. So far, the most popular is Veritas.

You could also just use the ufsdump program that comes with Solaris. It's not the best backup program
you'll ever use but I does work.
Personally I like to use the snap shot feature of Solaris (fssnap) and then backup the snap shot with ufsdump.
Crude but free.

Thanks for the replies.

The Amanda.org site seems to be flaky - slow and unreachable sometimes, but I will have another dig.

I was after free backup software. I was after alternative software on the same vein as Amanda (which is the only one I've ever heard of).

and a list of backup software at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backup_software

Let us know what you finally choose ... cheers, makyo
