zipslack..almost there i think...i need some help
 

alright i have been fooling around with zipslack all night, first it took me a few trys to get the .bat i know thats right....now i get this linux is booting
theres a few lines of text here with showing where the boot process is at i'm guess and everything is going fine...heres the last 3 lines where the problem is

Freeing unused kernel memory: 144K freed
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

at this point the whole comp is locked up btw i dont think this matters but this is an old laptop. what do I do? i dont know much about linux so this all new to me.:confused:

Sounds like you still did't get your linux.bat setup right.
Post a copy of it please. And when it stops, try scrolling up through the boot messages with <SHIFT>+<PGUP>.
You should be able to see your partition after 'Partition Check...'
Plus post your partition information from fdisk.

i dont think its the .bat becuase for the hell of it i loaded zlipslack on alother laptop the same way i loaded it on the one that i posted about up there both only have c drives so i unzipped the file to the c drives and set the .bat to

\linux\loadlin \linux\vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1 rw the one

laptop booted up and i logged in to problem
but when i got in to zipslack i found out this wasnt what i had wanted. i remember seeing a post about gnome and zlipslack...so i got amigo and unziped the same way as i did just before and edited the bat the same way...now this time it came up with the same erro

^^ that was running amigo 2.0
sadly my other laptop that i used before just to test out zipslack doesnt have a big enough harddrive for amigo so i cant test it out there

What tools and commands are you using to un zip with?

i'm using winzip, idk what verison it is it came out sometime after win95 plus, and commads none...for booting i just follow what it says or have used a boot disk

What size is the partiion?

its on the main drive its only about 2 gb's but theres maybe 600mb of free space

Did you try booting with a floppy?

yeah i have...i think its something in the hardware or i was missing a file..but i dont know linux well enough to say for sure

Is it a FAT partition or ntfs?

i think it was fat not fat32...it was running windows 95 at this point that computer is dead....trying the free space last night i got rid of the dos files....thinking the drive was split in to....finding out today my dad had to boot from that drive...so at the moment the comp is down but tommrow night should be running 98....but i tested amigo out on a laptop with the same specs running 98 and had the same problem so this doesnt change much

This kind of error indicates either trying to mount incorrectly or corruption of files during unzipping. I know the uploded files are good, as many others have used them.

well i have unzipped these files many times so...i dont know what else it could be...maybe i should try redhat or someone i dunno =/

I've been running ZipSlack for years.
It is VERY easy to load, backup etc..


The errors you describe MAY be from:

Starting Linux from within windoze.
Not having the Linux dir directly off the root.
OR, errors in the linux.bat file.

Why not post your linux.bat file?

That is, Linux MUST be located at C:\linux
AND it must be started from TRUE DOS mode.
