What difference between X.ord and Xfree.org?

Can any body tell the difference between X.org and Xfree.org?

Why not go to the respective sites and see for yourself. Xfree86 project is a close-knit group of developers who have been developing their version of X-server and it has been most popular, but they weren't first. They changed their licencing, which means a re-write of code for zillions of projects, so the linux community is looking to the roots of the X project and seeing what can be had when egos aren't involved. My take, of course.

X.org was forked from Xfree86 by angry developers when the leader, David Dawes, screwed up the license and made it GPL-incompatible. Eventually, all major (as in non-foreign and non-hobby) Linux distros made the switch, and its only major contender is FreeBSD. You should eventually switch, as the original version is based on a beta version of 4.4.0 before the change, unless you have a good reason not to (i.e. don't want new stuff until you're sure that it'll work, pain getting XFree86 off of your computer, gfx drivers incompatible, etc.). It's very easy to download the new packages, remove XFree86 with removepkg or pkgtool, and install X.org with installpkg or the previously mentioned pkgtool.
