usb keyboard during install

Forgive me if this has already been answered; I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a clean harddrive (NOTHING on it) and I'm trying to install 10.1. I'm using a USB keyboard (my motherboard is "legacy free" - no ps/2 ports). I boot from the boot disk using bare.i, it asks for boot parameters, I press enter. I'm then asked for the install disk and to press enter. I put in the disk, try to press enter, nothing happens. I noticed that the kb appears to be unresponsive...caps lock and num lock don't toggle the lights. Is there a parameter I need to enter before booting to enable usb support, or is there something else I'm doing wrong?

Thanks ahead of time for the help...

If I understand your problem correctly, disabling "legacy usb device support" in your bios may make everything A OK.

I'll give that a try...I don't remember that setting in my BIOS, but I'll look more carefully. Thanks!

Well, maybe you can install Slackware on top of Gentoo. Not automated, but you (one-by-one) remove Gentoo packages and install Slackware ones ;)
