Upgrade to 12.1 Stops Pointer in Console and X
I have a problem similar to that posted by kg6hno. Yesterday I upgraded my Sony Vaio notebook to 12.1 and the touchpad no longer works in neither the console nor when X is started. I use Xfce as the desktop/window manager.
I read through the CHANGES_AND_HINTS file but saw nothing applicable. Reading the gpm man page suggested changes to xorg.conf and rc.gpm. I tried those without fixing the problem. Your help is needed. TIA, Rich |
UPDATE:
I re-installed gpm and reverted /etc/xorg.conf to the original protocol and driver. Touch pad still doesn't work. However, when I plug in a USB mouse, the cursor works on the console, but still not when the X server is running. Does this help you gurus to identify the problem? Rich |
FIXED:
A local LUG member pointed me to running 'X -configure' as root. Copied the resulting file to /etc/X11 and now the cursor works in X. This thread is closed. Rich |
