unable to load mouse (xorg)

Hi, I have a standard generic PS/2 mouse and so far I've been ableto get fluxbox working, but no mouse.

cat /dev/mouse does nothing (when I move the mouse)
cat /dev/input/mice
cat: /dev/input/mice: No such device

(even though it lists it in ls)

Code:
root@yakk:/dev/input# ls
event0 event19 event29 js1 js2 js3 mouse mouse18 mouse28
event1 event2 event3 js10 js20 js30 mouse0 mouse19 mouse29
event10 event20 event30 js11 js21 js31 mouse1 mouse2 mouse3
event11 event21 event31 js12 js22 js4 mouse10 mouse20 mouse30
event12 event22 event4 js13 js23 js5 mouse11 mouse21 mouse4
event13 event23 event5 js14 js24 js6 mouse12 mouse22 mouse5
event14 event24 event6 js15 js25 js7 mouse13 mouse23 mouse6
event15 event25 event7 js16 js26 js8 mouse14 mouse24 mouse7
event16 event26 event8 js17 js27 js9 mouse15 mouse25 mouse8
event17 event27 event9 js18 js28 keyboard mouse16 mouse26 mouse9
event18 event28 js0 js19 js29 mice mouse17 mouse27
root@yakk:/dev/input#
help, please?

I tried the ps/2 protocol and microsoft mouse protocol in xorgconfig

a generic PS/2 should be /dev/psaux. try "cat /dev/psaux" and seeing if stuff happens when you do stuff to the mouse.

/dev/mouse is a symbolic link to /dev/psaux

so it shows nothing as well =(

Try probing for the mouse manually by trying the command on a whole bunch of mouse devices. Post dmesg too.

Does it works on console? Try disabling gpm service: chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.gpm && /etc/rc.d/rc.gpm stop
