Tri-Boot xp/zenwalk/slack
 

Hey guys,

I'm just getting into using linux and I've just installed ZenWalk on a 30 gig drive, I used reiserfs Version 4 to format the drive. I have a few questions:

1. Can I shrink the ZenWalk partition (/) so I can install SlackWare with it, and how would it be done?

2. Can I use the same swap partition for both distros?

3. Will Lilo come up just as it did for ZenWalk and auto detect xp and ZenWalk? Or will I need to edit the fstab and the lilo.conf (which I would have no idea what to do :P )

Other info:

The xp is on a seperate drive. I only have the /swap and / partition on the ZenWalk hdd (no /boot partition).

Anything you can post is apperciated, I look forward to trying out this distro!

1. I guess there's some tool provided with Zenwalk that will allow you to resize a reiserfs 4 partition, in Slackware you've one called resize_reiserfs but only supports reiserfs 3, maybe the one with Zenwalk supports it.

3. You won't need to edit fstab. Just choose not to install lilo during the setup. Then goto Zenwalks's /etc/lilo.conf edit it, and run lilo to update the loader. Remember that the Slackware's kernel must be seen by LILO. You need, since you don't have a /boot partition to share between both, to mount the Slackware partition somewhere like /mnt and point lilo.conf to there, like /mnt/boot/vmlinuz.

I've decided to wipe out both drives and install Slackware, Vector and Zenwalk.

I'm in the middle of installing Slackware and it says "INSTALL LINUX KERNEL" and I'm not sure what to do, If I go to cdrom it looks for a different cd (other than 1 and 2) if I go to skip it says it'll use the default /boot/vmlinuz one, but I'm not sure that that exists.

If I made a /boot partition how to I share it?

Please help asap as I can't go any futher w/o guidence, thanks!

use default.............there is a package called
"kernel-ide" which is a full kernel( 1.8 megs ...I think)
that will at least get you booted up until you can recompile your own custom kernel..........
