this is my first post as I am new to slackware. I discovered Linux in last june with mandriva.
I just installed slackware 11.0 on a toshiba laptop.
These were my main choices for installation :
- I chose all packages,
- I chose the kernel for ide drive with acpi,
- I chose a 1024*768 display (I have a GEforce 4 Nvidia card)
- I did not pass any parameter into lilo 's configuration
- I finally chose KDE for the GUI interface
On reboot, I arrive on the console in root with no GUI
How can I start KDE ? I tried "kde", "/sbin/kde", "./kde" without success

Hi,
First, Welcome to Slackware, now check my sig for some good online reference.
You should create a user with the command 'adduser'. Then login using that account. You can always 'su' to become root. Less chance of creating problems when you are a 'user' than with the root account. With 'su' use, you can generally recover from errors or tweak to allow proper use.
For the 'X' just issue the command 'startx' from the console. You should 'man startx' to get the goodies.
This 'man' is your friend. Really, to learn the system use the 'man <command>' when in doubt. Google and LQ searches will help also.
