Sound not working in Slackware 9.1

Hello:

I have recently installed Slackware 9.1 on my computer which has Intel D815EEA2 motherboard with on-board sound. But sound is not working. Can any body direct me how to do this?

Thanks for your help.

you need to include:
onboard chipset type (possibly ac97)
what you have tried
kernel version
whether sound is compiled as module or into kernel..

Only then can we help..

If you can't do it in slackware, it doesn't need to be done!

Sound isnīt working

Hey there people!

Iīm having a little problem with my soundcard. I have an Athlon XP 1700+ cpu with a VIA 8233 onboard soundcard. The problem is: the alsa driver detects my sound card and when I turn things on with alsamixer and save it with alsactl store the system says the soundcard is there, but I canīt get any sound from my speakers!!!

Can someone help me with this problem please???

Sound worked but only when I am root.

Hello:

As root I executed alsaconf. It detected the on-board sournd card. Later I adjusted the volume using alsamixer. Now sound is working but only when I am root in Gnome.

In KDE sound is working even for a non-root user.

What should I do to make sound work for non-root users in Gnome?

the avatar :you should check file permission of /dev/dsp* /dev/mixer*
what do you mean with alsadriver detected your sound card? did you run alsaconf? Eu aconselho que voce rode.... ; )
rsamurti: the point is under kde the sound server runs to everybod - root and mortal users. this is called Arts.
when you talk about gnome i don't know how it works for non root users. what i advice is: check if there is a sound server running only for root... maybe..
Cheers

good luck.

I added the user the sys group by editing /etc/groups file. Now sound is working for that user.

Thanks for your help.
