Slackware up and running... GNOME is not...

I got the 'classic' Linux look going here, but I want to try out GNOME. I can't find out to set this up for the first time. Please help me.

If you installed Gnome, try 'xwmconfig' and select it.

Do I have to be in a certain directory to run that or is it a shell command?

XavierP 07-13-2004 12:19 PM

It's a shell command.

Ok.

If it doesn't work as a user, you should try it after issuing the 'su' command.

What about xf86config? I was reading Shilo's installation guide and when I got to the part with xf86config, it wasn't there at all.

have you tried typeing "gdm" at the command line, or init 4?

I'll try that now and edit my post if it worked or not (only one computer and I have to switch boot-ups everytime).

This is the first time I have ever tried installing Linux, so I was just going on the step by step guide which told me to select KDE and I would be able to change it later. I don't know if GNOME is installed (though it has a bunch of files on the system).

/edit/
<s>It ran GNOME when I put in 'gmd' so that works. Now how do I configure it so I can change my resolution higher than 1024x768 and install drivers in the RPM format (like for my Radeon 9600 AIW and Belkin USB Wireless Adapter)?</s>

/edit2/
w00t it works! ^^ Someone should mention in the installation for Slackware that instead of using Xfree, and in turn xf86config, that it uses X11 by Xorg and needs to run xorgconfig instead.
