Slackware Installation
i got a toshiba 440cdt and i am trying to install slackware 10 on it .At the set up I select the media as /dev/hdc which is my CDROM ,I select the softwares I need to install and select the target media that is my Linux partition.
,still the setup gives the message that I need to do all this 3 things before starting with setup. In between the CD ROM has sometimes problems getting detected .Still with all this my MBR got loaded with GRUB so I dont know what to do next can some one guide me with my problem so that I can continue with the slackware 10 installation. My laptop details are Toshiba 440CDT 64MB RAM 2Gb Harddisk Floppy drive CDROM present 1USB |
Did you follow the setup step by step? What do you mean, it want's you to do it all again? How?

Slackware
Yes I did follow the instructions mentioned but , the setup dialog box tells me to select the media source, target location selection and selecting the softwares to install.
May be if the CDROM is working fine,is there a possibility that I do not correctly set up the target partition. Can you inform what do I have to do with the partitions that i have created. Thank you for your reply. Regards Jenish |
just hit ctrl+alt+del and let it reboot then you will see lilo if you have installed it and just choose linux+enter and off you go :)

Start by double checking your partitions. You should have a bootable Linux partition and a small Linux swap partition. Then go into setup and select Addswap. After finishing that part I think it pretty much throws you at the partition to install linux on (ex /dev/hda1). You format it and then start to install. As for selecting the source, I always just let it autodetect where the cdrom is.
That is as good as I can recall without actually stepping through an install. If nothing else bang away at it and you'll get it eventually. |
